It’s a busy time for Kelsie Waters as she gears up to compete at the Special Olympics Swimming Carnival in Moss Vale later this year.

After moving with her family to the Southern Highlands in 2009, Kelsie started swimming lessons at Moruya Amateur Swimming Club.
Loving it straight away, Kelsie joining the club by age 12 where she quickly won many swimming events.
While she is competent in all strokes, Kelsie said her favourite was butterfly.
In addition to her dedication to swimming, Kelsie has competed in the Special Olympics with the basketball and ten-pin bowling teams, winning two gold and silver in the 2014 National Titles in Melbourne.
The 25-year-old Southern Highlander works one day a week each at St Michael’s in Mittagong and St Thomas Aquinas in Bowral, completing administrative work and helping in the classroom as a teacher’s aide.

Additionally at St Thomas Aquinas, Kelsie transcribes readers to the computer, which are then transcribed into Braille.
Another two days are spent with Essential Employment and Training in Mittagong, where Kelsie is developing her social inclusion skills at a community level.
Kelsie is looking forward to competing at the Special Olympics Swimming Carnival in Moss Vale on Sunday, December 2 and hopes many other athletes from the south coast and further will come for a carnival that is not to be missed!
