Organiser Rodney South said 85 trucks travelled along a new route through Berrima and New Berrima to the Moss Vale Showgrounds where there was plenty of entertainment, raffles and auctions.
“We seemed to have a few more people out on the side of the road, cheering us on and we received pretty good feedback,” Mr South said.
“We also had more people attend the showgrounds, coming and going throughout the day,” he said.
The truck convoy event has raised close to $85,000 for the children’s foundation over the past five years and Mr South said this year would most likely see that number surpass the $100,000 mark.
“We’re thinking we’ve hit the $100,000 mark which is exciting. It’s been a bit of a goal for us,” Mr South said.
Mulready’s sand and soil supplies in Moss Vale bought the lead truck position, donating $5,200, while second lead was jointly taken by Brown’s refrigerated transport and Lyons transport, donating $5,000 to the foundation.
“The transport industry is full of pretty hard on blokes and this event gives them a chance to have a day off and enjoy themselves,” Mr South said.
The funds go directly to the BDCU Children’s Foundation which is currently focusing on youth mental health initiatives in the district, including facilitating a mental health nurse at Bowral and District Hospital.
“The whole big thing is it’s local people raising local money for a local charity.”
