The morning service at the Vietnam War Memorial in Settlers’ Park, Bowral, marked the 50th anniversary of the Battle of Coral/Balmoral where 25 Australian soldiers were killed and 99 wounded.
Local veterans who fought in this battle include John Cummins, Ken Burt and Rod Cashmere, Terry Lee and the late Tony Mitchell.
John Cummins was the guest speaker.
Students from schools across the Highlands as well as politicians and the community in general turned up to the Bowral commemorative service to pay their respects.
Orgnisers sung the praises of students in attendance describing them as “a credit to their schools and parents.”
Special mention was made of Moss Vale High School’s Scott Lawrence who gave “a most impressive tribute speech” and Chevalier College’s Emily Wanczura who played the Last Post and the Rouse.
