Shadow Minister for Health and Wollondilly MP Jai Rowell said he had 50 million reasons to smile at yesterday's announcement at Bowral Hospital.
"We have announced that a re-elected Baird government will invest $50 million into a major upgrade of Bowral Hospital," he said.
"The funding today marks a record investment into the hospital and benefits patients for generations to come."
Planning for the upgrade is slated to get underway after the election through consultation with health infrastructure, the local health district and stake holders.
"It's not for me as a politician to design a hospital," Mr Rowell said.
"We're going to work with the local health district to make sure they get something that suits their needs.
"It will provide improved access to services, meet the demands of today and will meet what's to come."
Mr Rowell anticipated that development would take place over the next four years, but it was important to get the planning right.
"This project will bring our hospital into the 21st century," he said.
"I'd like to thank the community for sending thousands of petitions to my office.
"If this is what we can achieve when I'm contesting the seat, I look forward to achieving more if re-elected."
