Mrs Gentle has been recognised for service to education through Rudolf Steiner schools.
The award sets her alongside her mentor Sylvia Brose, who founded the first Australian Rudolf Steiner School, Glenaeon in Sydney in 1957, and was awarded an OAM in 1984.
“I am proud to be following in her footsteps,’’ Mrs Gentle said.
“I first encountered Rudolf Steiner education in the 1950s when my developmentally delayed brother attended an early special needs Steiner education class - he flourished in the environment.”
Mrs Gentle said she reconnected with Steiner in 1970 with the enrolment of her eldest child, aged five at the time, at Glenaeon.
“Both my children attended this marvellous school from kindergarten to year 12 and the education they received gave them a great springboard into tertiary studies and adult life,’’ she said.
