Dogs are often part of the crowd at many Anzac Day services, and horses from the 1st/21st Australian Light Horse Moss Vale Troop are a key part of the Sutton Forest parade.
However, there was an unusual new addition among the crowd at the 2024 Sutton Forest. It was a rooster.
The feathered guest (suspected as being an escapee from a nearby property) made a respectfully quiet appearance as the rest of the crowd stopped to remember those who have served their country in various wars and peacekeeping roles since World War I.
The sounds of the Highlands Pipes and Drums, a rendition of Amazing Grace sung by Nerida Barnsley, The Ode of Remembrance by National Serviceman Phil Langley and the sounds of bugler Matthew Smith performing the Last Post and Reveille all contributed to the special morning of remembrance.
