Fifty three teams of two were vying for the honours in a highly competitive day of golf played in wind and continuous light rain.
The best of the early starters were the father and son pairing of Chris and Declan Drake, who had managed to post 44 points to nudge out Nathan Powers and Chris Soderborg by a point.
By the afternoon numerous pairings had threatened to overhaul the leaders but fell short with a score of 43 and five scoring 42.
The last pairing out were Nathan McGraw and Rob Shakeshaft who finished the front nine with 22 points and their chemistry was proving the perfect prescription for an exciting finish.
Also on the course was A Pennant sharp-shooter Charlie Camphin who was cleaning up on the two big nearest the pins, taking the Dormie House Dinner for two on the sixth hole and $110 cash on the sub-16 handicap 11th hole.
Camphin played his wedge to 111cm but the club's best putter failed to make his birdie.
Meanwhile, McGraw and Shakeshaft were making hard work on the first four holes of the back nine only managing eight points leaving 14 points needed to have a chance of winning on a countback.
Shakeshaft parred the difficult 14th,15th and 16th and McGraw the 17th, leaving them the task of having to bogie the 18th.
McGraw and Shakeshaft managed a safe landing securing the bogie they needed and taking victory on a countback.
The second round of the women's four ball was decided with front runners Kim Delaney and Yangeun Skerman fighting off a strong challenge by the second placed pairing of Sylvia Sylvester and Kate Flight.
In the end,, it was an emphatic win for Delaney and Skerman who had led throughout the two rounds and whose names will forever appear on the Corlette Cup.
Wednesday, April 17 saw Mick Wallace's 38 stableford points enough to win overall and B Grade honours.
Ray Cashmere was best in C Grade and second overall with 37 points.
Rob Wade, playing off a generous handicap of nine, also scored 37 points and topped A Grade.
The unluckiest golfer at the club and possibly the world, Iain Battersby, despite having the best round of the day with 74 off the stick, missed out on the cash and for his effort, managed to win only a ball.
