Between 30 and 110 millimetres of rain is expected on April 5 according to the Bureau of Metereology's Moss Vale weather station.
The Highlands, which falls under the Illawarra for the bureau, southeasterly winds from 15 to 25 kilometres an hour are predicted and will go easterly and up to 30 kilometres an hour in the area on Friday.
There has been a forecast for flash flooding from late Friday morning and overnight into Saturday (April 6).
For Saturday, 15 to 70 millimetres of rain is predicted, with it most likely in the Illawarra in the morning and afternoon.
Easterly winds are expected in the morning and will be light in the evening.
The state emergency services (SES) advises people to prepare their properties in the case of severe weather:
- Trim overhanging tree branches to prevent them from damaging homes during strong winds
- Secure or bring outdoor items inside that might become projectiles in strong wind gusts
- Clean gutters and downpipes to prevent water damage
- Check roofs for loose tiles or damages that could lead to leaks
The SES also urges people not to ride, walk or drive through floodwaters.
