Free heart screenings
- March 7, The Cardiac Centre, Bowral, 10am-4pm
Hearts4heart will offer free heart screenings in Bowral this week, as part of Heart Valve Disease Awareness Week. People will see a clinician for a heart screening via a stethoscope check when they arrive. If a follow-up is needed, participants will be referred for further testing for free on the day, such as an echocardiogram. The results will be available to share with their regular general practitioner.
An Aboriginal playgroup
Gunamaragang Burraay Djindjingara (Little Child Stars) Playgroup
- From March 7, Community Links Centre: 6 Harper Close, Tahmoor, 10am
Community Links has established an Aboriginal-focused playgroup called Gunamaragang Burraay Djindjingara, which means Little Child Stars in Dharawal. The playgroup will focus on day-to-day activities and host cultural events and celebrations, which involve the broader community and showcase the richness of Aboriginal culture. A movie night fundraiser for a good cause
The Great Escaper
- March 7, Empire Cinemas, 7pm for a 7.30pm start
Watch Michael Caine and Glenda Jackson in the film The Great Escaper, which is inspired by a true love story. Funds from the screening will be put towards a wheelchair accessible bus for the Wingecarribee Adult Day Centres. Tickets are $25 which include the movie, complimentary choc top and lucky prize draw. Activities at Mittagong Seniors
Mittagong Seniors hosts an array of activities at the Mittagong Senior Centre weekly. See the list of activities below:
- Ukulele meet-up: Tuesday (9-11am) and Thursday (12.30-2pm)
- Board game sessions: Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9.30 to 11.30am
- Line dancing: Tuesdays from 11.15am to 12.30pm
- Mature movers gentle exercise classes: Thursdays 9.30am to 10.30am

NSW Seniors Festival

Ways to be greener
Yerrinbool Railway Garden
- Every Monday, Yerrinbool Railway Garden near the station, 10am-12pm
Residents are invited to explore this garden weekly. The community garden was founded in 2018 by volunteers who wanted to grow healthy and fresh produce. There is also a mini market on the fourth Saturday of the month.
Railway Street fresh food and produce market
- Every Thursday, corner of Railway Street and Spring Street, 3-5.30pm
Grab fresh produce, plants, organic sourdough breads and more, which are made and grown in the Highlands.
Crop Swap Robertson
- Every Saturday, CTC Robertson, 9-10.30am
Exchange crops, plants and magazines at this weekly meet-up. People do not have to come with crops to take anything from the table. No money is exchanged. All are welcome.
Women making a difference
Southern Highlands VIEW Club meeting
- March 11, Mittagong RSL, 1pm
Women who are passionate about making a difference in the community can join the Southern Highlands VIEW Club. The local Voice, Interests and Education of Women (VIEW) Club is one of almost 300 across the country, that has given women the chance to make friends, and raise funds for The Smith Family. Volunteering opportunities through Volwing
Volwing is the region's volunteer resource organisation, where people can make a difference in the community, learn new skills and make friends. There are various positions available that cater to many interests. They include teaching learners to drive, greeting tourists at museums, serving food, being a reading assistant at a primary school, tending to gardens, and more.
