Six runs and figures of 0 for 32 off two overs was all the Sydney Sixer could manage in the Big Bash League (BBL) grand final against the Brisbane Heat at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Wednesday, January 24.
Despite the 64-run defeat, the Bowral cricketer said his side was still pleased to make it all the way to the big dance.
"I felt we had one of the best sides consistently all year," Kerr said.
"It wasn't our night and we didn't play our best cricket, but it was a great learning opportunity."
Winning the toss and electing to bowl first, the Sixers restricted the Heat to 166, a total Kerr felt was chasable.
However, the 27-year-old wasn't sure if batting second was the right choice.
"It was a difficult wicket to read and we may have made the wrong call with the toss," Kerr said.
"The wicket was different to what we faced in the previous game, so we weren't sure what to do with bat or ball.
"Brisbane summed up the conditions quicker than we did and they seemed to pounce on the length we thought would be the most effective on the wicket."
Although the Sixers bowled to their plans, they didn't take the chances given to them, including the early one of opener Josh Brown who was coming off a massive century.
They eventually got him out for 53 off 38 balls, but the damage was done.
Reflecting on the second innings, Kerr said constant wickets contributed to his side's downfall.
"We got off to a really nice start, but lost a couple of wickets at crucial moments," he said.
"Losing wickets in clumps added a lot of pressure to the lower order.
"The Heat have two really good test spinners in Mitch Swepson and Matthew Kuhnemann.
"We didn't quite nail the spin of the wicket and they exploited it really nicely.
"The wicket turned a lot in the second innings and deteriorated too."
The allrounder arrived at the crease with the Sixers on 5 for 73, but could only score six runs off seven deliveries before caught and bowled by player of the match, Spencer Johnson.
Kerr missed most of the BBL season due to an abductor strain but now that he is fully fit again, his has his sight on a big 2024.
"My goal for this year is to earn a call up into the Australian set up," Kerr said.
"The T20 and One Day squad is a realistic goal for me given the amount of white ball cricket I've played."
Hayden Kerr finished the BBL season with 20 runs and four wickets in the four games he played.
