The quarter-final of the minor pairs was played out in trying circumstances as Graham Hartnup, Robin Staples defeated Terry Norwood, Bob Edwards 21-18.
The match was interrupted by rain and finished in failing light but the bowlers refused to call it quits.
Norwood and Edwards had a dream start, going to a 9-1 lead after five ends.
Staples took Hartnup as his lead and, allowing that Graham has been playing bowls for just eight weeks, this was a brave move.
But under the guidance of the experienced Staples, Hartnup started to settle down and was drawing good bowls at the halfway mark of 11 ends with Norwood and Edwards having their lead cut to 12-8.
On the 12th end Norwood and Edwards picked up four shots to lead 16-8. Through good team work Hartnup and Staples won the next five ends to trail only by one shot 16-15.
With playing conditions deteriorating due to rain and the light fading, the turning point came on the 19th end when Hartnup and Staples picked up five shots to take a 20-17 lead.
At the finish they won by three shots in a very absorbing match.
