Nicholas Papademetriou, who has featured in Home and Away, several Shakespeare plays and other productions like The Odd Couple, has been perfecting Albert Einstein.
He has grown his hair "as long as possible", worked with a dialect coach, and has been studying what he can find about the theoretical physicist for the play Relativity.
The Bundanoon resident will bring the "quintessential nutty professor" to life from June 29, at the Chippen Street Theatre in Chippendale.
"I just loved to be a bit mad and he's a bit crazy," the actor said.
The play is set decades after Mr Einstein and his former wife had a child that was not spoken of again.
One reporter wants to question him about his family history, and when she corners the genius and he agrees to a brief interview, she gets more than she bargained for.
The play is based on facts, with one that is mystery.
It creates an "imaginary scenario" about the situation.
"The question of the play is do you have to be good to be a great man?" he asked.
"He was a very whacky person who was obsessed with work at the expense of his family and wife."
Mr Papademetriou, who was taught courtesy from a young age, found it difficult at times to embody Mr Einstein's rudeness.
"Einstein was such a difficult father and a bit volatile," he said.
"He rolls on with work and ignores everyone."
The actor said the theoretical physicist was however, a "man of opposites", and was "kind and gentle with the kids" when he was not working.
"It's one of those plays that gets very dramatic, very emotional and funny," he said.
You can see the play until July 9 at matinee and evening performances.
