Whether it's part of a band or performing solo, Angus Murray has steadily been making a name for himself on stage and it's all thanks to a 'weird' songwriting process.
Speaking to Highland FM's Lea Stead after being named the May 'Artist of the Month' on the station, Murray explained the steps he takes to create his music.
"It varies but I often find that writing with a guitar and vocals before even hitting record on anything is, for me, the most authentic way to write music," he said.
"Usually I will come up with some chords or melodic idea on the guitar and the lyrics come subliminally. I don't think about lyrics, I just write them.
"After I've written a bit I think 'ah so that's what that's about.' Weirdly it is my subconscious expressing or telling me something that I hadn't actively thought to express.
"It's very much a weird process perhaps but that's when I find the songs feel the best."
The 24-year old has just released an EP 'Live @ T.Guitars' following on from his 2017 debut album 'Beauty and Grace.'
For Murray, simply wanting to be a part of whatever song he plays, whether solo or in a band, has led him to be a versatile musician, dabbling in piano, bass, drums and even mandolin.
"I love the supporting instruments like bass and drums," he explained.
"No matter what instrument I'm playing I love the feeling of providing the groove or feeling of the song rather than playing over the top."
"I fell like it's (versatility) been a by-product of the crux of why I play music which is firstly, because I love it, and secondly because it makes me feel good and I like making other people feel good.
"I'm really pleased that people like what I do."
Angus will be playing in the next 100% Home-Grown Concert on June 18 and Bowral Bowling Club where he will be joined by Jerikye Williams and We Mavericks.
