The legendary Locomotive 3801 will return to the region for The Southern Highlander service on June 4-5 and August 13-14.
Sporting a neat bottle green exterior and boasting some serious power, the locomotive labeled 'A Legend of Steam' is sure to blow people away.
Highlanders would have caught a glimpse of the mighty machine in early 2021 as it undertook test journeys up and down the Southern Line before its official opening.
Locomotive 3801 was built in 1943 by Clyde Engineering. It served for almost 20 years and was retired in 1962 as Australia moved away from steam powered rains.
Its journey didn't end there though, being taken out of heritage service in 2007 to undergo major repairs and restoration to its former glory.
The journey starts at Central Station where the restored heritage NSW Government Railway carriages will be taken out of the city by two vintage diesel locomotives.
Once at Picton, the 3801 will attach and transport passengers to a bygone era through Wollondilly and the Highlands.
In addition to experiencing a truly vintage way of travel, people will follow in the footsteps, or rather train tracks, of some of the state's most important officials.
The Highlands Line opened in 1869 with one of its main functions being the transportation of NSW Governor Lord Belmore to his summer residence of Throsby Park.
The service will stop at both Bowral and Moss Vale. Passengers can choose to hop off at either and enjoy around two hours of exploring the towns' pubs, restaurants, cafes and shops before the return trip to Sydney.
You can join the train at either Central, Revesby or Campbelltown and alight at either Bowral or Moss Vale. The below timetable will be confirmed one week prior:
