They were outclassed all over the court in their 90-57 loss to the Sutherland Sharks in round three of the Waratah League Division Two competition at the Moss Vale Basketball Stadium on Saturday, April 9, but coach John Hargreaves and the players still saw plenty of positives.
"Even though we lost, the really pleasing thing was we improved a lot," Hargreaves said.
"That's the key for us.
"When the boys make mistakes, they recognise them.
"If you can lose by 30 odd points and be positive, then that's good.]
As for the game itself, Hargreaves said the Magic were never really in the contest and praised the opposition which had come down from the first division for the season.
"They're pretty good," Hargreaves said.
"They're really big, organized and tough.
"They were in control most of the game and shot the ball very well.
"The boys hung in there for as long as possible, but got tired towards the end.
"If we want to do well, they're the standard.
"They're the type of team we could play 100 times and lose 99 times, but you get them once.
"You just need a bit of belief."
Tristan Glenn was the top points scorer for the home side with 26 points while John Sheehy top scored with 25 points for the Sharks.
With Easter coming up, Hargreaves said it was great timing because everyone on the team needed a rest.
"We'll take a week off over Easter and then get back together to resume the season."
The Sharks go on top of the ladder with that victory while the Magic's two wins and one loss start to the season sees them in fifth spot.
Following the Easter break, the Magic will face the St George Saints at the Hurstville Aquatic Leisure Centre from 3.30pm on Sunday, May 1.
