Watching her Grandma and Grandpa go through their own chancer experiences and watching her gran lose her hair through chemotherapy and buy wigs, Samara made the choice to shave and donate her hair to do her part to help.
"I am shaving my hair for my father's mum, Gran, and my mother's dad, Pa", Samara said.
"I have watched them lose their hair without a choice due to chemotherapy treatment and I want to show my support by choosing to shave and donate my hair."
Last year, as part of her school leader speech she nominated that she would shave her head and while she did not get the role, her Mum Helen, encouraged her to still do the shave.
Helen registered a Do It For Cancer Fundraiser on behalf of Samara, with a fundraising goal of $1,500 and set the date of the shave.
Moss Vale Public School also showed their support to Samara, by putting on a crazy hair day on the day to allow students and staff join her in rocking a wonderful new do.
"I am so very proud of Samara for going ahead with the shave", Helen said.
"I was able to support her on the day and it was great to see everyone on board".
Samara received an overwhelming amount of support to her fundraising page and ended up raising over $4400.
Samara and her mum are very thankful for all the support the day.
"It was a bit scary", Samara said.
"But it was nice to have all the support from my community and I felt very confident in that moment".
Coming into the cooler months, Samara will wear her new look proudly and the Cancer Council Southern NSW team have sent her beanies in some of her favourite colours to keep her head warm on those colder days.
Funds raised by Samara will go towards Cancer council NSW's world-class cancer research, prevention, and support services. For more information and to support Samara donate at https://www.doitforcancer.com.au/fundraisers/helenharvie.
