Former Australian fast bowler and longtime teammate of Warne Brett Lee found out about the tragic news from former English spinner Graeme Swann while in the Southern Highlands and couldn't believe it.
"It's a horrible day," Lee said on Fox Cricket's tribute to Warne.
"I got a call from Graeme Swann last night [about it].
"I said, 'surely it can't be'.
"I got thrown into Google and my worst fears were realised.
"I'm actually down in the Southern Highlands to see my parents and my dad said 'Warnie can't be dead. That doesn't happen to Warnie'.
"That's exactly what the world is going through. It's disbelief.
"It's still so raw and I feel for his family."
Shane Warne passed away on Friday, March 4 due to a suspected heart attack while on vacation in Thailand.
Warne's family has been offered a state funeral and the Great Southern Stand at the MCG will be renamed to the S.K. Warne Stand.
