Residents are encouraged by SES Units to be weather-ready by doing the following:
- Cleaning gutters and downpipes, or arrange to have it done. Water can make its way into walls, eaves and parts of the roof if gutters and pipes are blocked.
- Clean storm water drainage pits and driveway grate drains so to allow them to properly direct the flow of water away from your property.
- Trim trees and branches that could potentially fall on your property.
- Fix any damage to your roof, including broken or missing tiles, or arrange to have this done. Buildups of dirt should also be removed because it can block the drainage channels on the underside of tiles.
Residents who need storm of flooding assistance should call 132 500 or dial 000 in a life-threatening emergency.
Severe weather and flash flooding warnings have been issued for north-east parts of NSW and south-east QLD, and a man lost his life on February 25 after his LandCruiser was carried away in floodwaters.
