Sadly, COVID health restrictions put an end to any Can Assist fund raising events during the term of the festival again this year.
Consequently, along with all the other event cancellations during the year, this placed pressure on our capacity to provide timely financial assistance to patients in our community who are living with cancer.
The Tulip Time organisers thoughtfully offered to place our donations box at the entrance to Corbett Gardens.
Donations by local visitors over the 18 days of the festival have raised an amazing $8378.45.
The generosity shown to Can Assist has just been astonishing.
We want to say a very heartfelt thank you to our local community, in thinking of others who may have a need for Can Assist help, at a very challenging time in their lives, coupled with the additional strain of the pandemic.
When circumstances warrant, we support our patients with the cost of items such as: medications related to cancer treatment, travel costs to treatment, respite and night nursing and palliative/end of life care costs.
We support approximately an average of 230 patients and families a year and their needs are such that we currently have to raise more than $100,000 per year to cover the services we offer.
All money raised in the Highlands is used exclusively for patients in our community, with a very small amount spent on administration.
Can Assist Southern Highlands is completely run by volunteers.
If you think you can spare some time to help, why not join us by taking out the $10 per annum membership.
Simply go to canassist.com.au and select Southern Highlands Branch for membership. You would be most welcome.
