Cancer Council is calling on the Southern Highlands community to show their Flower Power this Daffodil Day Appeal, with the current COVID-19 outbreak forcing the charity to cancel its usual fresh daffodil stalls.
Now in its 35th year, the Daffodil Day Appeal is Cancer Council's most iconic fundraising campaign. Daffodil Day falls on Friday August 27, 2021, but you can get involved any time throughout the month.
Community relations coordinator at the Cancer Council's Southern communities office Brooke Manzione said the beloved event would look a little different this year.
"For many of us, Daffodil Day means purchasing a beautiful bunch of fresh daffodils from a Cancer Council flagship stall to help fund world-class cancer research and show our support for people affected by cancer," she said.
"Sadly, the current COVID-19 outbreak in NSW means that we can't be out in the community this year.
"Our flagship stalls are one of the most important ways that the community choose to support Daffodil Day, both through donations and by purchasing fresh daffodils.
"If you are one of the wonderful people who would usually purchase fresh daffodils, we're counting on you to show your flower power in a different way and help save Daffodil Day."
There are three key ways that communities can still support Daffodil Day this year:
- Make an online donation at https://www.daffodilday.com.au/donate
- It's not too late to hold a Yellow Fundraiser. Take on a challenge, get active in yellow, or give up something you love for the month of August - the options are endless. Register here: https://www.daffodilday.com.au/fundraise-your-way/
- Join our Game for Good campaign. With many of us spending more time on screens now, why not do it for a good cause? Join Cancer Council's team of streamers and power life-saving cancer research by raising funds for Daffodil Day. Visit https://tiltify.com/cancer-council-australia/game-for-good to get started.
Ms Manzione said all funds raised through Daffodil Day support world-class cancer research, helping improve outcomes for people affected by cancer.
