Fire and Rescue NSW are now clarifying that damage has occurred to up to dozen businesses.
Firefighters will be checking on the structural integrity of the building today before invesitaging further.
5.30am
Superintendent Luke Unsworth from Fire and Rescue NSW confirmed this morning that at least six shops were damaged in the blaze on Bong Bong Street last night.
"Just before 9pm last night firefighters were called to a shop alight on Bong Bong Street, Bowral," he said.
"Firefighters quickly arrived on scene to discover that there was a cafe restaurant well alight within a row of shops and it was treatening those neighbouring shops.
"Firefighters immediately got to work to extinguish that fire and at the height of operations there were 30 firefighters and officers on the scene.
"The main work was completed by about 1.30 this morning and at that time over six shops had been damaged by either fire, heat or smoke.
"We'll be working with police throughought the day to determine the cause of the fire."
10.30pm
Fire and Rescue NSW has confirmed that there is damage to more than one shop in the area of the fire.
Firefighters are still actively battling the blaze.
9.30pm
A fire has broken out in the set of shops behind the ANZ Bank on Bong Bong Street, Bowral, believed to be centred in the vicinity of Dos Hombres Mexican restaurant and other businesses.
Triple 0 was called to the site at about 8.55pm.
Three fire trucks are on the scene with two more en route.
A Fire and Rescue NSW spokesperson said that there are no reports of any persons within the premises.
"Fire and Rescue will be working to try to protect neighbouring shops, and then work their way into where the main fire is," said the spokesperson.
