A FOWAS spokesperson said they welcomed Mr May's comments in relation to the urgency of the situation at the animal shelter.
But, they said the organisation was "concerned by Mr May's desire to make an expedited decision in order to take this matter off the agenda at the forthcoming elections".
"FOWAS members feel that this could result in a hasty decision that is not in-step with community sentiment and expectations," they said.
"FOWAS has met with both Mr May and the acting deputy general manager regulatory services to discuss the FOWAS model, Memorandum of Understanding and statutory compliance, while working with the council and the Wingecarribee Animal Shelter."
The community organisation expressed their desire to meet with the independent assessor, to enable a "concise, informative background regarding community concern and the FOWAS collaboration provided with the animal shelter since 2006".
