The Year 8 Moss Vale student talked about the obstacles of every day life in his poetry that was held at Bundanoon Soldiers Memorial Hall on February 27.
Bronwyn Beard, director of the Melting Pot Theatre said the event was a huge success and was attended by both returning poets as well as some first time writers.
"One of our regular poets, Gregory John Olsen Esq., was unable to attend the event so we pre-recorded three of his poems and show them to the audience up on the movie screen at the hall," she said.
Local council candidate and Bundanoon resident Rachel Russell shared two poems, including one written for last months local council meeting regarding the appointment of a new general manager for the Wingecarribee council.
"It was a lovely intimate evening of poetry and fun with several poets sharing more than one piece of writing each. All entries were scored by the three judges who were randomly selected from the audience," she said.
"Although it was a tight race the winner of the slam was our youngest poet of the group Hunter Beard (age 13) a student of Moss Vale High school. This was Hunter's second performance at the MPT poetry slams and he shared his work Brick Dust."
Bronwyn started the event last year as she feels that there is a big community of poets in the Southern Highlands region.
She has attended the poetry slams that were held in Wollongong and wanted to recreate the experience here.
