Bronwyn Beard, director of the theatre, said the event was introduced last year to encourage people to share their work in a fun and positive way. Poets from Bundanoon, Canberra and Lake Conjola have signed up for the event.
"We have connected with a group of poets from Lake Conjola who have been hit hard by the bushfires. They will be coming to the poetry slam and sharing their work they have been using to deal with the trauma of losing their house in the bushfires," she said.

"People can walk in on the day of the event to share their original work. Age is no bar and so far, our youngest poet is 13 years old and the oldest is over 60 years."
Bronwyn started the event last year as she feels that there is a big community of poets in the Southern Highlands region. She has attended the poetry slams that were held in Wollongong and wanted to recreate the experience here.
Her love for poetry started when she was a child. "My father used to read poetry when I was a kid and I have always enjoyed it. I did not get much time to pursue it while studying but took it up a couple of years ago and attended poetry slams and that's where my passion kicked off again," the 43-year-old said.
She has been awarded the 'Emerging Performance Poet' by the Southern Tablelands Arts in 2020 and is the Bundanoon Community Association's poet laureate. She also mentors young poets and run workshops with youths.
The poetry slam will be held at the Bundanoon Memorial Hall on Saturday, February 27. Tickets cost $10 for adults and $5 for students.
