Sunday, December 7 at Bowral Bowling Club, the running of the Crowe-Brenning Cup was run at Bowral.
It is in memory of John Crowe and Bill Brenning and is held between the club champions of Bowral and Robertson for bragging rights to see who is the best of the best.
In windy and difficult conditions there were lots of high quality bowls on both sides.
In the singles, Stephen Della kept up his recent excellent form and was flying in this match against Ken Oliver.
From the start Della played consistent draw bowls and only lost four ends in a very dominating display in a 31-6 win to give Bowral the perfect start.
The pairs saw the zone pairs champion Kevin Stafford pair up with up and coming bowler Tom de Greenlaw to take on the very experienced pair of Mick Frost and Graham Tutt of Robertson.
The scores were level on four occasions and no more than two shots separated them in the last third of the game.
Tutt trailed the jack on the 20th end and promoted his bowl on the last end and by doing so ended up Frost and Tutt taking the game 21-19.
The Bowral triples team of Eric Willacy, Paul Leverett and Josh Woodcock fell behind 7-1 to Noel Acton's side.
Bowral lifted with excellent lead bowls from Eric and timely conversions from Paul and Josh to win nine of eleven ends to swing the game decisively and taking the win 23-14.
The fours saw Russell Fahey lead up the side with Dave Coltman, Mick Spong and Mick Armstrong following.
Playing for Robertson was newly acquired player Stephen Bruce who recently joined Robertson from Beecroft.
After an even eight ends with Bowral leading 8-7, the years of experience and their ability to win came through and Bowral powered away to win 33-11.
Bowral have now won five years in a row, but the closeness of the matches over that time between the two clubs and the friendship of the players over many years of competition was evident on the day.
Robertson will be looking to reverse this result in 2021 and in their home territory, they are always hard to beat.
Final score card:
- Stephen Della defeated Ken Oliver 31-6
- Mick, Frost and Graham Tutt defeated Tom De Greenlaw, Kevin Stafford 21-19.
- Eric Willacy, Josh Woodcock and Paul Leverett defeated Eric Pull, Bill Creer and Noel Acton 23-14.
- Russell Fahey, Dave Coltman, Mick Spong and Mick Armstrong defeated Christine Wortley, Guido Federico, Brian Robinson and Stephen Bruce 33-11.
