Now in its tenth year, Garage Sale Trail is the nation's biggest weekend of garage sales and one of Australia's largest community events with over 400,000 people expected to participate across 16,000 garage sales nationally.
New to the trail this year is the option to participate virtually as well as in-person at physical garage sales where social distancing and COVID-19 safety measures will be adhered to.
Wingecarribee Shire Council's waste education and policy officer, Phoebe Ward, said council was pleased to be involved in this grassroots national event.
"Reducing waste and supporting our community are key priorities for council," she said
"It's predicted that over two million items are to be listed and diverted from landfill. That's a win for the planet and for anyone looking to save money by shopping secondhand.
"And with Christmas just around the corner, it's a fantastic opportunity to ready the tree with secondhand treasures."
Garage Sale Trail is a not-for-profit social enterprise founded by Darryl Nichols and Andrew Valder. It seeks to educate Australians on the importance of reuse, and the need to take individual responsibility for the impact of our consumption habit whilst also building stronger, more connected and more resilient communities.
"With more than 40 sales registered across two days, there is sure to be something for everyone," added Phoebe.
The Garage Sale Trail is on November 21-22, 2020.
Shoppers can map out sales they'd like to visit physically or virtually by searching the map and creating a Trail at www.garagesaletrail.com.au/wingecarribee.
