Now, the club legend is a 150th gamer.
The Bowral Cricket Club celebrated beloved player, Greg Cruger's 150th game with a guard of honour on Saturday, November 15 at Stephens Park.
Chairman of the Bowral Cricket Club, Peter de Hosson said Cruger is a much respected player and person at the club.
"Greg has been around the club for a long time and having anyone represent our club for such an extended period of time is admirable, de Hosson said.
"It shows loyalty. He's honest, reliable and a quiet achiever.
"Everyone knows who he is, but he doesn't say a whole lot.
"The club really appreciates all the time he has dedicated to the club and it's just a fantastic legacy and milestone."
Cruger's love for the game began as a child, but due to other commitments he couldn't play as much as he would have liked.
"I've always liked cricket as a kid, but never really had the opportunity to play much when I was younger," Cruger said.
"I was tied up with football and the seasons overlapped.
"I played for a couple of years as I finished off high school, but when I moved to the UK for a couple of years, I played Sunday league cricket there.
"I picked up the gloves as the team I joined didn't have a wicket keeper and no one seemed to want to do it.
"I had a crack and I really enjoyed it. You're always in the game.
"When I returned to Australia, I hadn't played in a while and had small children then.
"When my oldest boy began playing, some of the older dads asked if I'd like to play, and at the ripe old age of 35 I began playing cricket again.
"I'm nearly 60 now and it's been quite the journey."
They can't get rid of me (laughs).
- Greg Cruger, Bowral Cricket Club 150th gamer.
As a Bowral Cricket Club member for 20 years, the club is much loved by Cruger.
The record book may show 150 games, but he thinks it's a little more.
"We began recording results on the internet, but that was only around ten years ago (laughs)," Cruger said.
"Realistically I've probably played 300 games for the club (laughs).
"The club means a lot to me. It's a great club to be a part of. Everyone is friendly and welcoming.
"There's a big focus on juniors and bringing younger talent through. I've mostly only played third grade, and that's an excellent stepping stone grade for the young guys coming through."
Forming a guard of honour for the club legend, Bowral Cricket Club showed their respect and admiration for a member they value so highly.
"It was slightly embarrassing," Cruger chuckled.
"I don't seek the limelight (laughs). But it was a really nice gesture from the team.
"To make a bit of a fuss was quite nice. To get the recognition that you've been there quite a long time was great.
"They can't get rid of me (laughs).
"It was a great day for cricket, we didn't get the result, but it was a good close match.
"I love playing for the club and the attitude they have for the game of cricket."
Don't think the gloves will be hung anytime soon, Cruger still loves to play cricket and has more to give the game.
"I'd like to be fitter (laughs)," Cruger said.
"But, I'd like to keep playing, contributing and enjoying my cricket.
"It makes all of that easy when you're playing with such a great bunch of guys and for an excellent club."
