Brent Hazelton, 23, pleaded guilty to importing a childlike sex doll and importing child abuse material at Wollongong Local Court on Thursday after he was arrested at his home in March.
In an agreed set of facts tendered to court, Hazelton bought a "leg model, half body sexy doll" from Ali Express for $200.
The image alongside the item showed the lower half of a child sex doll part, with white frilled socks on the feet, a black g-string half way down the doll's legs.
On December 4, 2019 Australian Border Force officials went to a Toll transport depot and examined an air cargo consignment that was addressed to Hazelton, described as "clothing display model".
The package was further examined on February 14 and found to contain the lower half of a silicone childlike sex doll, with genital cavity and g-string included.
Hazelton on multiple occasions inquired about his package including contacting Australia Post and the Department of Home Affairs.
He called the department, told them his name was Brent Hazelton and said an "adult item" valued at $200 to $300 had been stuck in Customs since December 4.
On February 22, Hazelton returned to Sydney after visiting South Korea where he was stopped by Australian Border Force officers, who requested his phone.
Officials found 34 images of children in sexualised positions and three animated videos depicting children engaging in sex with an adult in a secure folder.
During an interview at the airport, Hazelton was asked about the imported sex doll. He said he bought the half doll because it was the cheapest however "didn't think for a second it would be considered childlike", instead believing it resembled an 18-year-old girl.
He later admitted to police, "I do think it's younger... probably about 12".
He told officials he bought it from Ali Express, the "Chinese Amazon" and also purchased clothing to use with the sex doll, telling them he intended to use it for "sex purposes".
He told officials he was not attracted to children nor had child pornography on his devices.
Hazelton was allowed to leave the airport but his phone was seized for forensic examination.
He was arrested at his Albion Park home on March 4 when border force investigators and Lake Illawarra police searched his home, seizing computers and a USB device.
In a police interview, Hazelton admitted to looking at child abuse material, sometimes of children as young as eight, at least once per week.
He said he knew it was illegal but he was sexually attracted to girls aged 10 to 15 years old.
Hazelton, who remains on bail, did not appear in court on Thursday instead his lawyer entered guilty pleas on his behalf.
He will be sentenced in January next year.
