The work began following a successful grant bid from Wingecarribee Shire Council.
Mayor Duncan Gair said council would upgrade the existing amenities building at Moss Vale in two consecutive stages following the injection of Australian Government funds.
"The Church Road Playing Fields are among the most popular of our shire's sporting venues," he said.
"Hundreds of players and spectators use the facilities on weekdays and weekends in both winter and summer."
"While Council had already commenced work on the first stage which involves extending and improving the existing building, we can now fast-track the second stage of the project and add an additional floor."
Stage 1 of the project involves refurbishing the existing facilities and providing new amenities including change rooms, referee rooms, additional storage and accessible toilets.
Funding secured from the Australian Federal Government will enable Stage 2 of the works to be undertaken consecutively and includes the construction of a first-floor addition with wet weather training area, kitchenette and store room.
An accessible car park providing all abilities access will also be provided to the building.
"We're delighted to have received this funding so that both stages of works can be undertaken at the same time," Cr Gair said.
"As a result, players and spectators will be able to enjoy the new and improved facilities sooner than originally anticipated."
A total of $241,000 was allocated as part of a $1.18 million grant council secured via the Australian Government's Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program.
Council contributed a further $72,000 towards Stage 2 of the project.
The announcement of the funding follows a further $542,000 of Australian Government monies being allocated towards the refurbishment of the Mittagong SES Volunteer Centre.
"Both of these announcements are proof that when it comes to successfully applying for government grants, Wingecarribee Shire Council punches well above its weight," Cr Gair added.
"I thank the Federal Member for Whitlam, Stephen Jones MP for his continued support of our shire."
Refurbishment works to the Church Road Playing Fields commenced in July 2020 with both stages of works expected to be completed by mid-2021.
