The event is targeted at players identified as potential participants for the following years Australian Country Junior Basketball Cup (ACJC) and East coast challenge (ECC).
Making nothing but net from the age of seven, Ryder has played ever since and continually grown as a player.
"I originally played basketball for fitness," Ryder said.
"It was just a bit of fun with some friends. But when I began to really get into it, I enjoyed it a lot."
The hard work and dedication paid off for Ryder as he was named to participate in this year's Talent Athlete Program (TAP).
The program takes student athletes on a camp and gives them a taste of the student/athlete lifestyle.
But due to COVID, this event was cancelled.
In 2019 he made the Australian Junior Country under 14's team, so this year he'll be looking for more on going success.
"I was really stoked when I was announced as a player for this year's under 15 Basketball NSW Shootout competition," Ryder said.
"There are a lot of good players and it felt really good to make it.
"The aim for this year's Shootout Competition is to make the ACJC and the ECC."
Facing some of the state's best basketball talent, Ryder is staying in peak form.
He's training extra hard now, because walking into the competition, it's a complete unknown with what it will bring.
"I'm shooting every single day," Ryder said.
"I'm exercising along with my shooting practices also. You don't know what to really expect heading into these competitions, so it's the best bet to go as hard as you can when training."
With COVID affecting all sporting codes, Ryder has been named to some excellent competitions and programs even if they were delayed or cancelled due to the pandemic.
But, on Wednesday, October 28 he was named to attend the 2020 D-League Tournament.
With such a bright, promising future Ryder has some big plans in mind with his basketball career.
"I'd like to play for the Illawarra Hawks one day," Ryder said.
"It's close to home and they have a great community there.
"That would be pretty exciting."
The under 15's Shootout Competition will take place at Hills Basketball Stadium, on January 16-18, 2021.
