Bridges and roads across the Southern Tablelands and Highlands will receive more than $6.6 million in federal funding.

The money from round five of the Bridges Renewal Program and round 7 of the Heavy Vehicle Safety and Productivity Program (HVSPP) is designed to improve the road network and facilitate easier movement of freight.

Hume MP Angus Taylor announced the successful projects on Friday.
They are:
- Peelwood Creek - $552,614 for replacement of timber bridge under the Bridges Renewal Program (drought and bushfire category);
- Crookwell River - $768,600 for timber bridge replacement - Bridges Renewal Program (drought and bushfire);
- Burra Burra Creek (at Richlands, near Taralga) - $479,726 to replace timber bridge (drought and bushfire);
- Carrick Road (near Goulburn) - $458,806 to replace part timber bridge with modular concrete culvert system - Bridges Renewal Program;
- Mount Hercules Road (Razorback) - $400,706 to replace a single-lane causeway with box culvert - Bridges Renewal Program;
- Towrang Road (near Goulburn) - $2 million towards bridge replacement - Bridges Renewal Program;
- Peelwood Road reconstruction - $432,700 for sealing of 30km from the 205km to 235km mark - Heavy Vehicle Program round 7;
- Wheeo Road reconstruction and sealing of 5km from the intersection of Hawthorne Tree Road to Wheeo Road - $573,288 - Heavy Vehicle Program;
- Silverdale Road truck rest and shoulder widening $643,087 - widen 600 metres of road, upgrade the intersection of Bents Basin Road and formalise the truck parking layby area;
- Chinamans Lane (Goulburn) - $349,447 to upgrade and widen the road to current RMS status to 19 metres and for over 50-tonne B-doubles.
Mr Taylor said the timing couldn't be better.
"This vital funding will allow communities right across the country to fast-track their highest-priority infrastructure projects, providing a much-needed boost to local jobs and the economy," he said.
"I am so pleased to see 10 projects across Hume will receive a total of $6,658,974 to do exactly that at a time where it couldn't be needed more. This will be of enormous benefit to local families and businesses as they struggle to recover from what has been an incredibly challenging year.
"Each of these bridges or road repairs will make life just a little bit easier and safer for our local families, businesses, farmers, truckies and tradies."
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development Michael McCormack said the latest rounds, worth $290 million, would support 350 projects, many of which had been damaged or were deteriorating.
"With nearly 80 per cent of this funding going to local councils, the outcome of these rounds will support local workers, households and businesses through a difficult time and position the Australian economy for a strong recovery.
"By improving our road network this funding will also help keep people safe on our roads while making key freight routes more efficient, delivering long-term benefits to drivers, businesses and local communities.
Assistant Minister for Road Safety and Freight Transport Scott Buchholz said half the funding, or $146.97 million would go to councils affected by bushfires, drought or both.
