But a new Bureau of Health Information report has shed light on the extent of the waiting lists at Bowral and District Hospital.
The percentage of patients who received semi-urgent elective surgery was 68.4 per cent between April and June, compared to 96.5 per cent in the January to March quarter.
Meanwhile 39.5 per cent of people on the non-urgent waiting list received their surgery within 365 days in the latest quarter, compared to 85.2 per cent from January to March.
At nearby Goulburn Base Hospital, 86 per cent of people received semi-urgent surgery within the recommended timeframe and 53.3 per cent had non-urgent surgery.
At Shellharbour Hospital, 85.4 per cent of people underwent semi-urgent surgery and 53.7 per cent of people received non-surgent surgery.
During the latest quarter, hardworking Bowral Hospital staff delivered 273 elective surgeries.
From April to June, 70 people had urgent elective surgery at Bowral and District Hospital.
Meanwhile 79 people had semi-urgent surgery and 119 people had non-urgent surgery.
The most common elective surgeries for the quarter were cataract extractions, hysteroscopies, cholecystectomies, total hip replacements and inguinal herniorrhaphy.
At the end of the quarter, there were 949 people on the waiting list ready for non-urgent surgery.
Meanwhile there were 55 people on the waiting list ready for semi-urgent surgery and 10 people for urgent surgery.
Acting general manager Sue Hair said Bowral and District Hospital was "committed to continuing to provide safe and high-quality care to our patients and the community".
"The number of elective surgeries declined in the April to June quarter due to the Federal Government's direction to all states and territories to suspend non-urgent elective surgery as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic," she said.
"Patients requiring urgent surgery at Bowral and District Hospital continued to be prioritised, and 100 per cent of urgent procedures were performed on time."
Ms Hair said surgery numbers have increased.
"We continue to monitor waiting times, ensuring our acutely unwell patients and those whose surgery has been postponed are prioritised," she said.
"Bowral and District Hospital's $68.7 million redevelopment is nearing completion and will include new theatres.
"All elective surgery will be managed through the perioperative suite to enhance efficiency and patient flow."
