But a chance encounter outside a supermarket in Bowral led to what Lorraine described as a "random act of kindness during Covid".
Kathy was wearing a mask she had made herself - Lorraine asked her about it and said she would love to buy one.
But rather than charging for her services, Kathy offered to make one for Robert and Lorraine and delivered a couple to them just a few days later.
"She didn't have to do that," Lorraine said.
"She wouldn't accept a thing and said she'd be happy to make more if we need them. She was an absolute delight."
Kathy first started making masks after she spoke to family in Melbourne who said they had found it hard to purchase masks.
Her sister-in-law had been making some and gave her the patterns and from there she has made masks for friends, family and those who need them.
"It's older people who I think might need the help," she said.
"I just offer them when I see people that need them."
The Kangaroo Valley resident also recently delivered some masks to a mother's group in the area.
