I can't remember a time when I didn't automatically know that the Australian Winter Solstice was on June 21 or 22 (depending on the year).

I actually look forward to the date because I know the days will get longer from that point and I love those longer periods of daylight.
As a mother of three I have appreciated the extra daylight hours because that has meant the chance that I won't be arriving home in the dark after running my children from one after-school activity to the next.
The good news is that Sunday, June 21 was the day of the Australian Winter Solstice. From this point each day will get lighter. Effectively we are moving out of the dark.
It's somewhat symbollic this year as the light at the end of the tunnel of restrictions is also becoming brighter.
We have been touching base with more sporting clubs and businesses to find out how they have coped and what these eased restrictions mean for them.
It has also become clear that opportunity is knocking as far as funding support for community projects are concerned as government at all levels aim to boost the economy and generate jobs. We will continue to share news of spending programs and funding opportunities as they occur.
In the week ahead we will be touching base with schools to find out how they are progressing with regard to continued restrictions.
We will also continue to share the stories of businesses and sporting groups on the road to something like 'normal'.
Stay safe.
