From April 1, all landowners and property dwellers planning on undertaking backyard burning activities should make themselves aware of the Wingecarribee Shire's backyard burning requirements.
Wingecarribee Shire Council grants approval for backyard burning to be undertaken on properties greater than 4000 square metres and located within an approved burning area.
To establish if your property is covered by this approval you should follow this link to find the WSC interactive map: https://wscweb.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html
To find advice on the safe and legal undertaking of backyard burning you should follow this link: https://www.wsc.nsw.gov.au/environment/search
Undertaking backyard burning activities outside of the approvals may attract significant penalties.
Fire permits issued by the NSW Rural Fire Service will not be required during the non-bushfire danger period for residents and landowners within an area covered by Fire and Rescue NSW in Bundanoon, Moss Vale, Bowral and Mittagong.
Residents who live in these areas should follow the links above to ensure that they have approval to burn and MUST apply for a Fire Permit from Fire+Rescue NSW
Call the Rural Fire Service Mittagong office on 4868 5500 for more information about how this can be obtained.
