Rather than gather in person this year, events throughout Australia are going virtual
"In these crazy times, the Mother's Day Classic Foundation has made the decision that all events in 2020 will be held virtually rather than physically," organisers said.
"We're challenging you to run or walk 4km or 8km in your local area on Sunday, May 10.
"You can complete your challenge anytime, anywhere, in your living room, at the local park or around your neighbourhood."
If the time isn't right, you can finish your virtual event anytime in the lead-up.
Results are logged online on a virtual challenge page.
The Classic is the major annual fundraiser for the National Breast Cancer Foundation and organisers hope everyone will still take part in whatever way they can.
Given the coronavirus particularly threatens those whose immune systems are suppressed, the risk of holding a public event was deemed too high.
Anyone who registers for the Virtual 2020 before close of business on Friday, March 20, will receive a $15 merchandise voucher for the foundation's online store.
The Batemans Bay event is the one of many community festivals suspended or cancelled due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
