The 25-year-old suffered the injury in their 2-1 defeat at Tottenham Hotspur in the English Premier League on Sunday and scans showed damage to the hamstring on his left leg.
"It takes weeks, but I don't know how long right now," Guardiola told reporters on Friday.
Champions City, who sit second in the Premier League, 22 points behind leaders Liverpool, play West Ham on Sunday.
