This little fellow was snapped by Mark Cole near his home at Woodlands - although 'little fellow' is probably and understatement as he measured about 1.5 metres.

The goanna was fortunate to be able to secure a safe haven on a tree that was not affected by the bushfire burning in the area.
Being predatory lizards, goannas are often quite large, or at least bulky, with sharp teeth and claws.
