A high-visibility policing operation will be in place on Tuesday and Wednesday, to ensure the safety of large crowds expected at events across the state.
Across the Hume Police District this will involve general duties police, as well as licensing and proactive police units.
The Hume Police District Commander superintendent Chris Schilt said police would focus on public safety, alcohol-related crime and anti-social behaviour.
"NSW Police want everyone to have a memorable New Year's Eve for the right reasons, so celebrate responsibly, drink in moderation and look after your mates," superintendent Schilt said.
"Police will not tolerate dangerous, criminal or anti-social behaviour, so anyone caught putting other people's lives at risk, or spoiling the fun for others, will be dealt with swiftly.
"We strongly advise the community to plan ahead how you are getting to and from your selected celebrations - whether it be public transport, pre-arranged transport or organising a designated driver."
Hot weather is expected over the next few days, and police are urging revellers to remember the four key messages to keep healthy in the heat:
1. Drink plenty of water (limit hot, sugary, or alcoholic beverages)
2. Keep cool (stay in the air conditioning, if possible)
3. Take care of others (visit or contact those at risk of heat-related illness)
4. Have a plan (know who to contact if you need assistance and seek medical advice if you feel unwell).
