These restrictions apply to both residents and commercial businesses and bring us into line with neighbouring regions including Goulburn, Wollondilly, Illawarra and the Blue Mountains. These areas have all been on restrictions for some time now.
Under our first stage of water restrictions residents and businesses are no longer able to use sprinklers, leave hoses unattended or wash down hard surfaces like driveways.
Residents can still use a hand-held hose fitted with a trigger nozzle to water gardens between 4pm and 10am.
Cars can also still be washed on lawns with a bucket and rinsed with a trigger nozzle hose.
Other restrictions apply to swimming pool owners, nurseries, bowling greens and golf clubs.
We know these restrictions may be inconvenient, especially with the holiday period pending, but the decision to introduce them was not taken lightly.
Given the recent bushfire emergencies that have impacted neighbouring regions - and may yet impacts ours - we felt it important to join the efforts in conserving this precious resource.
Across the shire we're confident that all residents will take up the challenge and join us in being water wise over the coming summer.
For the full details on our shire's water restrictions visit council's website at www.wsc.nsw.gov.au/water-restrictions or phone on 4868 0888.
AS THIS is the final column for the year I would like to wish the readers and families of the Southern Highland News a joyous Christmas and a happy, healthy and safe new year.
On behalf of the executive team at the council I would also like to take this opportunity to wish all the staff of Wingecarribee Shire Council a prosperous 2020!
