The 39-year-old Colo Vale man was convicted of assault, damaging property, stalking with intent to cause fear and contravening an Apprehended Violence Order when he appeared by audio-visual link in Goulburn Local Court on September 25.
Police facts said on January 1, 2018 the defendant was at a woman's house near Mittagong, when he awoke after consuming alcohol.
At 7.20pm he began to verbally abuse the woman, saying he was "going to kill her."
He picked up a beer bottle and ran it across his throat, making threats to slit her throat.
The woman asked him to leave and contacted another person to come and get him.
The man picked up a pedestal fan and smashed it.
He then exited the house and picked up an Otto bin and threw it at a window, but it did not break.
The woman threw some of his belongings outside and locked the door.
The defendant then kicked the door, breaking it open and snapping the door jamb.
He entered the premises and pushed her before going into a room to get his other belongings. She called the police.
At 7.35pm, police attended and found the man in the front yard yelling at the woman, who was still inside the house.
Police arrested him and took him to Bowral Police Station.
While in custody, he made threats to: "burn her house down when he got out of there."
On February 7, the man was placed on an Apprehended Violence Order (AVO), with conditions not to stalk, assault or threaten the woman.
Then, at 8.47pm on February 22, 2018, the woman returned to her house and found the man sitting at her kitchen table. He had been drinking. She asked him to leave, but he refused to and he lay on a bed in a spare room.
The woman called him a tax and said: "you either leave, or I am calling the cops."
He left, but on February 23, he sent her numerous text messages in which he made various threats. Police arrested him on February 26.
In court, the defendant's solicitor said his client was an alcoholic and this was reflected in his criminal history.
Magistrate Geraldine Beattie said he had a "significant criminal history involving violence."
"In February, 2018, you attended her house again while you were on an AVO," Ms Beattie said.
"You also sent her threatening text messages. All of this was in direct breach of the AVO and she felt intimidated.
"All of the offences were committed in her home.
"You have displayed limited insight and remorse into your own behaviour and attribute significant responsibility to her and the volatility of the relationship."
She sentenced the man to an aggregate sentence of three year's jail, with a non-parole period of two years.
