McAfee Language School Inc, which runs classes at Moss Vale Public School, will receive $2,500 in funding to support the operation of its community Chinese lessons.
This was a part of a $5.5 million state government funding program for community-run language classes.
The McAfee Language School aims to provide opportunities for children to learn to use Chinese (Mandarin) in a range of authentic situations.
Their students experience Mandarin through listening, speaking, reading and writing activities.
Member for Goulburn Wendy Tuckerman welcomed the funding, and said it would support language diversity in the local community.
"Community language schools play an important role in helping young people maintain strong links to their heritage and cultural identity," Mrs Tuckerman said.
Minister for Education Sarah Mitchell said the community languages schools program has already had a profound impact on students from all backgrounds.
"Research shows that children who learn a second language show greater cognitive development in higher order thinking skills, which means their brain has acquired the capacity to think quickly and strategically, creating a solid foundation for their schooling years," Ms Mitchell said.
