Cappa's Cafe, located at Southern Highlands Private Hospital, is the first cafe in the Wingecarribee Shire to sign up for the swap-and-go, reusable coffee cup system Green Caffeen.
The program has run for about three months at the cafe and has gained a small but regular customer base so far.
The team discovered the scheme when they received a suggestion from a customer.
The scheme is free for cafes as well as consumers who can access the program through the Green Caffeen mobile phone app.
Cappa's Cafe co-owner Paul Cappa said the model was cost-effective for cafes and had a positive impact on the environment.
"Anything you buy that's recyclable is expensive and it comes off your bottom line," Mr Cappa said.
"The fact that you save on the recyclable cup, it's a good thing.
"The more [the system] grows, the better it is for the environment."
Green Caffeen co-founder Martin Brooks said he and his business partner Damien Clarke wanted to reduce the number of single-use, disposable cups going into landfill.
"We wanted to make it easier for people to have a reusable coffee cup," Mr Brooks said.
"We knew there was a problem with remembering the cups and cleaning them so we thought we'd get rid of those roadblocks."
Customers can sign-up and purchase their drink at a participating cafe, consume the drink and return the used cup when they're finished.
Coffee drinkers can return the used cup to the same cafe or any other participating cafe, and grab a fresh cup the next time they order.
