Now with just 10 per cent vision Lucia Corradi along with her Seeing Eye Dog and best friend Aura will take on the 14 kilometre run.
At the age of 10 Lucia began to notice her vision was changing. At around the age of 40 it deteriorated suddenly and drastically changed her life.
"I only have about 10 per cent now," Lucia said.
"I had about 50 per cent till I was in my forties. When my vision began to fail, I was unable to go anywhere without assistance. Leaving the house, walking, even going to work was very difficult. Aura has given me my independence and my confidence back."
Aura came into Lucia's life three years ago. Not only has she helped Lucia with her everyday functions that many take for granted, she has become a part of the family.
"She's my right arm," Lucia said.
"She is my best friend. If she's not with me I feel like something is missing from me. Aura is the same about me.
"If I have to leave her at home, when I return she's so excited. She acts like I've been away for a month (laughs).
"When you are matched with your dog by Seeing Eye Dogs Australia (SEDA) they really hope you bond. Sometimes that doesn't happen, but we bonded straight away.
"She'll stick her head into the bathroom as if to say 'oh you're there' (laughs). If I get up during a commercial break she will follow me.
"We're inseparable. My husband gets a bit jealous (laughs)."
Competing in this year's City2Surf will fulfil a dream of Lucia's that dates back to before her vision declined.
"I've got a team of 10 doing it with me," Lucia said.
"I'm looking forward to finishing the whole run. It's always been my goal to complete the City2Surf.
She is my best friend. If she's not with me I feel like something is missing from me.

"I used to run a lot before my vision deteriorated. I'll be ticking off an item from my bucket list this Sunday.
"I also want to bring awareness to how important Seeing Eye Dogs are."
Seeing Eye Dogs cost upwards of $50,000 to train from birth to handover. They have a significant impact on the vision impaired's lives both physically and mentally.
