The October long weekend will be a big with racers from across Australia converging on the region to get a heavy dose of adventure.
Teams of four or two will have 12, 24 or 36 hours to navigate through spaces rarely visited and overcome challenges traversing demanding landscapes, moving from checkpoint to check-point by foot, mountain bike and kayak.
The race is the final of the Adventure1 Australian Adventure Racing Series with the top team in Australia being announced at the end of the race. The series has point's events across Australia with the best national teams vying for the converted title of 2019 champions.
Teams from Queensland, Victoria, New South Wales and across the ditch in New Zealand are already locked in. The race will be a unique mix of experienced adventure racers and first timers all exploring their limits.
With the Wildside Adventure Race celebrating its 7th installment organisers Fully Rad Adventures are no stranger to the sport having presented the race across NSW and the ACT as well as personally competed in adventure races across Australia, Africa and New Zealand.
"We are passionate about getting people outside and exploring places and adventure racing is a great way to do that" Race Director, Richard Old said.
"For Wildside Southern Highlands we have connected with locals and taken all that we love about the sport creating a course that offers real adventure as well as promotes the unique mix of remote canyons, meandering waterways, tough trails and local history - it's going to be special"
Starting on Saturday, October 5, teams will use map, compass together with their own wits and skills to navigate their way over an unmarked route by mountain biking, paddling, trekking, orienteering, trail running, and of course a few surprises through the spectacular Kangaroo Valley landscape.
They will have until Sunday, October 6 to finish as they problem solve, route find and persevere over a wild course managing their resources.
"This race will have everything - challenging treks, demanding mountain biking and scenic paddle legs," Mr Old said.
"The course is rich in history, has a close connection with the forest and is stunningly beautiful. We are designing a race that will give teams a real adventure experience as well as get to know the area."
The Southern Highlands and Kangaroo Valley is a landscape perfect for adventure with miles of forest tracks and trails, mountainous climbs, flowing rivers, wide lakes and a community that is connected to its environment.
Teams can expect a warm welcome and a great experience.
