Teenagers from across Australia travelled to the Southern Highlands last weekend to compete in the country's first ever CrossFit contest for teenagers.
Benton Gym CrossFit in Mittagong hosted and organised the event on June 23, with 60 teenagers from 11 to 19 travelling to the Highlands from as far as Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, Mildura and Canberra as well as youths from Sydney, the Blue Mountains, the Illawarra and the Southern Highlands.
The teenagers competed in five events which tested their fitness and strength, with exercises such as sled pulls, power cleans, wall ball throws, skipping and rowing.
The winners of each of the six divisions (each wining $250 cash) were:
- Males 13-15 - Ben Reid from Benton CrossFit in Mittagong
- Males 16-17 - Ethan Vander Vel from Lithgow
- Males 18-19 - Peter Ellis from the Blue Mountains

Benton Gym co-owner, Lizzy Blumentals, said the gym hosted Australia's first teenage CrossFit event to promote active living in adolescence.
"Life habits are set early so we're passionate about helping young people set themselves up for an active life built on healthy habits and exercise," Ms Blumentals said.
"These amazing young people have not had a contest like this before where they could compete against people their own age and they clearly enjoyed it and were prepared to travel with their parents long distances for the experience.
"What shone clearly was not only their competitive spirit but the camaraderie they also showed in supporting and cheering each other on all day.
"We plan to host more teenage competitions in the future to highlight the importance of health and fitness amongst our youth."
