Wingecarribee Shire Council is seeking comment from residents after councillors voted to place council's draft swimming pool barrier policy and guidelines on public exhibition.

Council's group manager of planning, development and regulatory services Nick Wilton explained the importance of the document.
"The essence of this policy is to raise awareness of the importance of pool safety and prevent drownings in pools within our Shire," he said.
"It's particularly aimed at ensuring young children are protected around swimming pools and spas."
Drowning is a leading cause of accidental death in young children with data from the Royal Life Saving National Drowning Report 2018 revealing that 18 children under the age of four tragically died as a result of drowning last year.
Two thirds of these deaths occurred in swimming pools with inadequate pool fencing highlighted as a contributing factor.
"These shocking statistics are a sobering reminder to always actively supervise children around water," Mr Wilton added.
Council's draft swimming pool barrier policy and guidelines detail the responsibility of owners and the requirements for both large-scale and smaller pools including portable pools.
The document also covers the types of structures permitted inside a pool enclosure, the role of inspections, proposed enforcement and fees.

The document can also be viewed in person at council's libraries or the Moss Vale Civic Centre from Wednesday, May 29.
