Mr Kingston's campaign will be launched at a public meeting at the Bundanoon Memorial Hall on April 11 from 6.30 pm.

The Bundanoon resident said he decided to stand for the seat of Hume because he believed "many voters are looking for an alternative to the major parties". 

"I believe that now more than ever there is a climate for change," Mr Kingston said.

"People are tired of politicians from the major parties who are more concerned about their own political futures than they are about the future of the country."

Mr Kingston believed that voters "are ahead of the government in recognising that we need genuine action on climate change, to allow for investment certainty for renewables".

He described recent announcements from the government around these issues as "far too little, far too late".

"The budget, as a statement of national priorities, totally fails to address the biggest threat we as a country have ever faced, being climate change. It contains effectively no funding for climate action at all," he said.

"It contains some reactionary measures for natural disaster relief and drought relief following another dreadful summer faced by many Australians (both in rural and urban areas), but those measures deal with the consequences of climate change rather than addressing the cause and attenuation of climate change."

As well as campaigning on climate and energy policy, Mr Kingston would like to see better support for small business, a federal royal commission into the Murray-Darling, action on the Very Fast Train, and a move to fixed four-year parliamentary terms.

There will be a question and answer session at the campaign launch so residents can find out more about Mr Kingston's ideas and policies.
