Gumnut Patisserie took out several awards, the most notable being champion cake or pastry of the show. They were also crowned the most successful cake exhibitor on the day.
Bakers Delight Bowral was the most successful bread exhibitor of the show, taking out multiple first place titles. They were recognised for their baguette and ciabatta entries, as well as their regular white and wholemeal loaves.
Gumnut apprentice, Josh Nickl, won the trophy for champion cake for his raspberry bavarois. The most impressive part of this was that the award winning cake was part of the patisserie's regular offerings. "We literally took one cake out of the lot we had for the day and added more garnish," Gumnut owner Vicki Nickl said about the winning entry.
Fellow Gumnut apprentice, Sam Goodacre, placed in several categories, securing first in show for her fruit tartlets.
Vicki Nickl was proud of the result all the Gumnut Patisserie's apprentices had, and said it gave her confidence in the training that they provided.
Focus turns to the Sydney Royal Easter Show now, as many bakers and pastry chefs vie for the prestigious titles handed out by the Royal Agricultural Society of NSW. For these local businesses winning a title here would just be the icing on the cake for their delicious baked goods.
