Wildlife carer Peg McDonald wants residents to appreciate birdlife while keeping them safe.
A wedge-tailed eagle has been spotted in Burradoo, around Chevalier College and the Briars Country Lodge and Inn.
Ms McDonald said she believed the eagle was injured and has possibly been scavenging for food.
“It appears he has a problem with his right hand side, possibly his right leg,” she said.
“When he flies his tail swings to the right. This usually indicates he’s trying to put weight on him to guide himself.
“It’s also possible his vision may be impaired. He’s unable to fly high enough to use vision to see where food is kilometres away.”
The eagle sights have created a buzz on social media, with residents describing their encounters with the bird.
Ms McDonald said while it was great to see so many people with an appreciation for the bird, it was important to put safety first.
“The fact that he’s engaging with humans on a fairly regular basis, either he’s been hand raised or he’s just desperate,” she said.
“I think it’s wonderful people are able to see him up close. But be mindful this is a powerful bird, even more so when it’s injured.”
